The Gears of War Keep On Turnin' in a Brand-New Novel

The Gears of War videogames have become blockbuster hits and cleaned up over 30 Game of the Year Awards, just to name a few. At the request of their very passionate fans, Epic Games released follow-up novels, which instantly became best-sellers; Aspho Fields and Jacinto’s Remnant. These stories were penned by #1 New York Time best-selling author, Karen Traviss who is known for her action and sci-fi work for Star Wars: Republic Commando series, Star Wars: Legacy of the Force series and The Clone Wars movie novelization.

Well, the Gears are back; and as the plot thickens, so does the pile of Locust bodies…

Anvil Gate hits bookshelves on August 31, 2010 and picks up where Gears of War 2 and Jacinto’s Remnant left off, following the tragedy on Jacinto. Marcus, Dom and the rest of the Gears are helping the people rebuild by fighting off hordes of pirate gangs. Nothing these bad asses can’t handle – but when the Lambent (creatures feared even by the Locust) start advancing across the planet, it becomes apparent that maybe all the enemies weren’t destroyed at Jacinto after all and humanity is in serious trouble.

Time to pick up a Lancer and try to keep up!

“Anvil Gate is part of the fast-moving storyline between the second and third Gears games, so it’s essential reading for any fan who wants to fully understand the events of Gears of War 3 – the final game of the trilogy, also written by Karen,” said Epic Games Executive Producer Rod Fergusson.

GirlGamer will be reviewing this novel, so stay tuned for that – but if you can’t wait for the juicy goodness of a Lancer turning an enemy into pudding, you can pick up Anvil Gate for $16.00 US starting next Tuesday.

Also – don’t forget to vote for the fate of Carmine, as all proceeds go to Child’s Play, a charity that brings video games, consoles and other toys to underprivileged kids. To vote, purchase a “Save Carmine” or “Carmine Must Die” tee shirt for yourself or your XBox LIVE avatar.

As always, keep it here for all your Gears of War news!

I've never read a video game based book, what are they like? How's the writing?

VERY good. They only commission trusted names in adaptation, many of which are best-selling authors. Also, said authors have insider knowledge into the franchise before the public so they get all the nitty-gritty details.
