When the down and dirty gaming site “Game Crush” was released we were all… well, crushed. Paying a girl to play games with you was a huge disappointment to us. Lately, there’s a new website going around; Meetagamer.com has been seen on Myspace, Facebook, and just about every other social network there is, but does it fall into the category of disappointment and shame like Game Crush did?
I took some time to break down the site to see what it was all about. First off, the site labels themselves as a “social network” not a “dating website”.
Apparently they must think gamers never leave their house more than once, so they’re giving them a chance to make gaming pals online. The website features loads of things for gamers to do such as take part in polls, post videos, create blogs, enter contest, even buy Meet A Gamer merchandise.
After spending time with MeetAGamer.com, I would LIKE to call it a “social network site” but there’s more to this site than meets the eye.
Why? For starters, I’m sure the first impression most people get is that it’s a dating site, so creepers out there will use it as one. It may have the outward appearance of some harmless fun here and there but scanning through the profiles, I noticed a lot of girls in skimpy outfits looking for “gaming friends.”
(Because when I need a new gaming friend I just put on a v-neck and pose in my underwear. Good thinking, girls.)
Behind Meet a Gamer’s playful mask dwells a dirty side. If they were SO strict on being an anti-dating site, why would they allow the “advertising” to continue? Hrm…
All in all, I do think the site has good intentions but they don’t enforce the rules enough to keep it that way. As long as members are still posting inappropriate photos, I see it being treated as a dating website.
Game Crush, Kaboom, Meet a Gamer
I dislike MAG and dislike many of its members. inappropriate. gaming isnt the first thing on members minds.
Well written!
LOL That's exactly why we don't allow users to post in their underwear, because that's not what the site is for. We work hard to keep creeps and trolls out and as you can imagine, that's not always easy! There was a comedian talking about girls who dress slutty but don't want to be treated as whores. "Well, you're wearing the uniform!" ha ha ha *sniff*
i'm glad gg doesn't allow inappropriate photos. MAG looks more of a dating website more than social networking.
You were so much more kind to them than I was when I reviewed the site months ago. Whatever you do, don't share this with the owner of the site. He'll just say you are "dissin' on the members yo".
That site is trash. I wish I had an option to delete my account. Fun trivia: GameKrib, the site I write a column for? It's censored throughout their website. No matter where you type it nothing shows up but ********.
I love meetagamer.
