Mafia II and Playboy Join Forces

What would an authentic Mafia game be without good ol’ fashion porn? Not the cheap stuff either, the legit Playboy kind. Believe it or not, 2K Games made a licensed agreement with Playboy magazine today to use 50 (maybe even more) of their vintage centerfolds and covers in the game, Mafia II. The game takes you back to the 1940’s and 50’s in Empire Bay where gamers will be able to do “gangster” things, and I quote, “will enable players to collect virtual copies of the iconic magazine, which has served as the definitive guide to lifestyle and culture for men since December 1953”. Oh, so now it’s a lifestyle? Give me a break.

“While most mob-inspired games’ emphasis is solely on action, Mafia II features a deep and compelling narrative that is embellished with a sophisticated, era-evoking atmosphere,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “In partnering with Playboy, we are able to add a unique element of authenticity to the game by using vintage images from the magazine that illustrate the power of Playboy’s influence on the attitudes and culture of that generation.”

Mafia II brings the era back to life with clothes, music, cars, and of course, porn. The game gives players a true Hollywood gangster feel, while they get to beat up, shoot up, and do just about anything else they want. Remember those chrome-plated low riders they would drive? You’ll be seeing some of those too.

“For more than 55 years, Playboy has been a part of America’s pop culture landscape, engaging its readers with insightful features, interviews and fashion spreads, as well as pictorials of some of the world’s most beautiful women,” said Playboy magazine’s Editorial Director Jimmy Jellinek. “Mafia II is set when Playboy first came into vogue and features characters whose style and attitudes mirror content from our early issues. We’re excited to bring an element of authenticity to the game that is unmatched in the men’s publishing category.”

I suppose when you want to target male gamers just throw in some porn, right? Sad part is, it probably works.

Don’t get too excited just yet though, the game is still being developed, but like it’s twin, Mafia, we can expect the same high impact and thrilling ride. I can just picture it’s new tag line, “Now featuring Playboy!”
