Aliens and Predators have been wreaking havoc, either alone or against each other since 1979. Pitched in a battle to the death, however, the obvious winner remains a 2 am Denny’s debate to this day. All that is about to end on February 16th.
Rebellion, the studio that brought us Aliens vs. Predator for PC & Mac in 1999, returns with what could possibly be the most exciting (dare I say it) remake in a long time. A multi-player demo became available this past Thursday and I have to say that it was definitely addictive.
Imagine, if you will – a cross between Halo and Unreal Tournament. A whole lot of chaos; jumping, running, killing and respawning to the sound of someone’s screams off in the distance.
Yeah – it’s like that.
If you’re into fast-paced, First-Person Shooter action, you’re going to love Aliens vs. Predator.
Aliens vs. Predator takes lore from previous games, as well as the films to create not one, but three unique campaign adventures. Play as Alien, Predator or Marine; all having their own special abilities and weapons – and put them all to the test.
Not much has been revealed about the individual species, except for controversy surrounding the rather graphic “trophy kill” you can execute as a Predator. (Think gruesome fatalities in Mortal Kombat) As usual, the Australian OFLC doesn’t like it, but Sega won their appeal so there will NOT be a cut version made.
As an Alien, you can traverse walls and ceilings like a spider – sensing your victims through floors and obstacles with ease. As a Predator, your cloaking system makes you a worthy and frightening adversary. Colonial Marines are no second-rate character choices, however, and should not be underestimated. (OO-RAH!) Armed with a number of interchangeable weapons and rechargeable health, they can also sense enemies coming by way of their movement detectors. (The tension-building beeps from the movies!)
The demo released last week only allowed one mode (Death Match) but implied that there would be a number of other modes to choose from. The controls are a bit tricky to get a hang of, at first, but once you do, be prepared for hours and hours of good old-fashioned frag time.
Hopefully, this game will continue the tradition of team-based battles online:
You can jump into the action February 16th on PC, XBox 360 and the PS3. Keep it here for official reviews and more juicy details!
