Why not start your morning off with a bowl of nutritious cereal – virtual cereal that is.
Today, Marroni Electronic Entertainment (MEE) announced their rather lacking sales numbers for their new Iphone and Itouch application, iLikeCereal!!. Mom always told me not to play with food, but now I can without the mess and punishment! Sadly, few others felt the same way.
“We sold 26 copies,” said Nick Marroni, Owner of MEE. “We weren’t necessarily expecting instant great success, but damn. We know that cereal’s not the biggest thing outside North America, but it’s almost like people haven’t even heard of breakfast in some parts of the world.
Followed by the success of their iPhone application, Koi Pond, the milk and cereal physics simulator was in hopes to follow. However, the catchy music didn’t win the crowd over. Fully loaded with French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese didn’t seem to help expand their numbers either. Even for what seems like such a small app frustrates the team who put months and months of time into creating it.
“We copied everything from Koi Pond, but it just wasn’t enough. We spent four months, on-and-off, on what was supposed to be a four week project and packed it with a lot of cool features and polish-except for the UI; that really ain’t pretty, but hey, that stuff costs money, man, and artists don’t work for free,” explained Ivan Galic, Owner and Programmer, NightIrion.
And who is to blame for this? “We blame pirates,” said Galic and Marroni. “Dirty, filthy pirates.”
So what exactly can you do with virtual cereal? You’ll have to find out for yourself! You can pick up the app from the iTunes store for only $1.99 (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ilikecereal/id341455168?mt=8)
