Fury of Solace

I am a Dr. Horrible fan. Many who know me, or have kept up with me on both Facebook and Twitter, can vouch that I am a faithful fan to “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”. If you don’t know what I am referring to, then you are missing out and I beseech you to visit “Dr. Horrible.” :http://www.drhorrible.com/ Seriously though, watch it and you will love it!

My adoration for this Joss Whedon creation had “Fury of Solace” seeking me out on twitter and from there, opening my eyes to film creation taken to another level. “Fury of Solace”, created by Emmett Furey, is similar to Dr. Horrible in that it is about a superhero, a villain, and part musical. But that is where the similarity stops. “Fury of Solace” is not always filmed in a controlled setting. The cast and crew do not always rely on organizing the crowds for their shots. When I say that the film is done as a live-action video, I mean just that. Real people in real places wondering what is going on as they watch in confusion as Emmett chases down Sara Ward.

And instead of relying solely on video to showcase the interaction between characters and events, Emmett Furey has incorporated the use of online comics to help reveal the story. But it doesn’t stop there. Yet another step taken by the brilliant creator is the inclusion of audience participation via twitter. In fact, without the help of fans, “the Orphan” would never have been able to break into the password-protected video detailing plans to assassinate Max Mason, CEO of Mason International.

Though relatively new, “Fury of Solace” has gotten off to a bang. The storyline alone captured my interest from the get go and I have to admit, I fell in love with the song that Emmet and Laurel sang at the very beginning of the first episode. Personally, I think it is genius how the audience is not only able to participate, but plays a crucial part in how the story progresses. In some ways, it reveals a truth that many tend to forget in the midst of stars, money, and fame. The audience is what can make you and what can break you. And with “Fury of Solace”, this plays truer than it would for any other film, show, or web series.
