Global Agenda

Global Agenda is a new MMO that pulls together elements of a few of the latest hit games. It blends in aspects of World of Warcraft, with talents and crafts; & the balanced teamwork & character graphic customization of Team Fortress 2.

The initial game play was fairly smooth. The majority of the hotkeys are intuitive to any veteran of a first person shooter. Switching between weapons is very easily done due to there only being 3 payloads. There are melee weapons, ranged weapons, & specialist weapons bound to 1, 2 and 3, respectively. The melee weapon, depending on left or right click, will attack or defend, creating a shield in front of the user’s melee damage area. Melee attacks from behind results in a “backstab” type of attack allowing any class to receive the benefit from it, even the Medic class who can chase down a user and kill them if they try to escape with high damage attacks from behind.

The ranged weapon is standard from almost all classes, medic and engineer with a machine gun that zooms when using secondary fire. The heavy carriers have a minigun who’s secondary fire entrenches him from moving, giving him bonus damage but results in more damage to be taken. Keep in mind, these are all preset weapons and because weapons can be crafted the possibilities can be endless. I would like to note that from the demo it appears all classes are balanced and no one character felt overpowered over another.

The specialist weapon is class specific and will change depending on what craft is chosen. A good example is the Medic, they can select a “heal gun,” allowing them to heal anyone who is nearby by linking to them and focusing their beam. Again, here’s the example of Team Fortress 2’s influence. All classes are on an “energy supply” that drains as they use any weapon, jetpack, or item. This prevents the healer from indefinitely keeping a beam on another character, and also allows a new utility through the right mouse click. The right mouse allows the medic to fire a “super healing beam,” healing at least twice as fast but in turn drains the energy much quicker. I found micromanaging the two beams, choosing when to fire, as well as when to use items very challenging.

The crafting system of the game is fueled by player-versus-environment combat which allows players to group together in agencies to play against bots in raid type situations. Each agency will control different areas of the “world,” fighting for territories will change the map levels.

Currently the game is not yet finished and is about 6 months out so it should be released by the end of the year.
