Oh, yes it’s true. Activision and Treyarch have started the pre-E3 hype right on time by announcing Black Ops 2. This information seems to have been leaked early by the UK site earlier this afternoon (whether or not that was accidental, we’ll never know).
“Pushing the boundaries of what fans have come to expect from the record-setting entertainment franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 propels players into a near future, 21st Century Cold War, where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare.” Activision proudly announced.
Black Ops 2 will mark the first time that the franchise has taken place beyond present day, placing the story in 2025; not as far in the future as say Halo but closer to the events in Crysis.
Activision is known for throwing out a new Call of Duty every year (with the exception of the two year span between 1 and 2) so is anyone really surprised? Plus, we can guess what’s in store for the next two years, as copyright claims reveal Call of Duty: Future Warfare and Call of Duty: Space Warfare. Regardless of the frequency in which these games hit the shelves, Activision has no reason to slow down; the last three titles have been the largest launches in game history and time will tell if Black Ops 2 will follow in that tradition.
