It started with a sticker stuck to the bottom of my shoe while at PAX Prime…it said “Gamer Wine” and from then on, I was curious.
Gamer Wine was founded in 2010 by gamers Kaffeen, Maerth, and Frankla (who I’m told pompously insists on pronouncing it “Fronk-lah”) who love wine and decided as there wasn’t a wine out there FOR gamers; they’d create it themselves!
With three current selections to choose from: a nice red named “Stunlock”; a merlot named “N00B”; and a lovely Pinot Grigio appropriately named “Gamer Widow”, everything about Gamer Wine (including their website and wine back labels) may be tongue and cheek but the flavors of their wine show they mean serious business…even your stupid snobby wine friends will enjoy a glass.
So OF COURSE I had to find these three and ask them some questions…
Three of us who have been friends for a long time and gamers for pretty much our whole lives. The idea was simply an extension of what we love to do.
All three of us really like wine… which is not to say that we don’t
like beer or energy drinks. But we really liked the idea of good wines
packaged for gamers, something you could break out at a party or give as a gift that wasn’t just “fun” but also a really good, drinkable bottle of
wine that you’d be happy to open and serve.
We had a list of about 100 possible names, gamer jargon is a real
treasure trove of content, but settled on three – Gamer Widow, n00b, and
Stunlock – that we thought had a lot of broad relevance to the gamer
community. All of the wines are sourced from the heart of Washington’s
best vineyards (eastern part of the state) and bottled in Walla Walla
We would really love to offer more varieties in the future, and we have
a lot of fun ideas for new names – we hope the idea takes off so we can
grow it! Unfortunately, Muscat isn’t a typically grown/bottled wine up here, sorry!
We do plan to offer more varietals in the future – this area produces a
lot of really good reds, so stay tuned.
Xbox, PS3, PS2, PSP, I have an Alienware lappy that I love, we all play
WoW on Macs
Either of the reds go really well with beef jerky, Hot Pockets or pizza
rolls… think savory foods. Gamer Widow pairs really well with
lighter/sweeter fare – ice cream, popcorn, potato chips.
Stunlock – no question.
(good choice!)
