Calling is a spine-tingling, stomach knotting, fills you with dread game. Everything about Calling was strategically put together to create a work of genius that incorporated some of the classic methods of Japanese horror, and they did it taking full advantage of what the Wii had to work with.
After appearing on a number of other platforms, Sonic the Hedgehog’s original adventure for Sega Genesis has finally arrived on the iPhone. You know the drill. Sonic needs to make his way through a number of levels, bopping enemy robots to free the animals trapped inside them while tracking down Dr. Robotnik and retrieving the Chaos Emeralds.

Nevertheless, for $4, Top Gun is pretty hard to beat. Download it now and show the world that, yes, you are dangerous.

The iPhone would probably be the last place we’d expect to see a laser-disc game. I mean, come on, how can you fit a frickin’ laser disc onto something that’s smaller than the size of your hand? Surprisingly enough, though, Digital Leisure has done the impossible, cramming Don Bluth’s 1983 arcade game Space Ace into it with little to no problems.

Can a game be considered too cute? In some cases, yes. For instance, Barbie Horse Adventures for the Xbox is too saccharine loaded for its own good. You’ll feel so much pity for the horse being stuck there that you’d wish you could shoot it. Same goes for Barney’s Hide and Seek on the Sega Genesis, but we’ll save you the nausea. Super Yum Yum 3 raises the bar on cuteness, with super-colorful chameleon character wandering around a number of levels, eating fruit. It almost sounds like a crazy twist on the Yoshi’s Story theme, although the folks at Airplay UK surprised us by also including addictive gameplay.

OneChanbara is one game that, while unintentionally humorous and entertaining, it’s blatant lack of innovation and substance either grants me a lot of leg room to kick-it down or a serious reason to blabber-on about all it’s overlooked potential. It’s fun or nothing.

In short, Bubble Bobble Plus is nothing short of awesome, and it’s probably one of the best WiiWare purchases you can make this summer. People who never got into the original won’t get into this one, but everyone else can enjoy the game and burst a few bubbles. Go on, you know you want to.

Toki Tori is lots of fun, another winner from the folks at Chillingo. Check it out and have some fun with a hot chick. You won’t even need your credit card. (Well, except to initially purchase it, we suppose.)

Ninja Council 4 is a modest sequel to the Ninja Council series and a fair adaptation of the Shippuden series. The younger and less hardcore you are, the more you’ll enjoy this game.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf is the debut for the series on the iPhone, and EA Sports could’ve easily just ported over an earlier version of the game and called it good. Instead, it went in from the ground up and tailor-made an exquisite golf experience for pros and amateurs alike, thanks to a fundamental touch-screen gameplay system, a mostly solid presentation, and abundant extras that will have you scoring birdies for hours on end.

King Of Fighters XII keeps true to its set up with 3-on-3 action with timed matches. The control and combos are extremely easy to pick up. The backgrounds are gorgeous and well done. The online portion was a bit of a headache to use, but it’s nice that you can play multiple people online. Overall, the game itself is absolutely fun to play and it stays true to its arcade roots.

We’re glad to see Punch-Out!! back on the comeback trail. Next Level Games did a splendid job with it, and we can’t wait to see what project Nintendo has lined up next for them. It truly is the champ.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince for the Xbox 360 is quite possibly the best break from gaming I have ever experienced.

Silent Hill: Homecoming delivers a stunning visual experience not soon forgotten. Mature themes and violence make this game potentially unsuitable for young children or the faint of heart. New controls make combat a bit hard to master, at first, and even on ‘Normal’ mode, monsters are tougher to kill than those of Silent Hill games past. As is typical for the series, the story (albeit deep and well crafted) unfolds VERY slowly, so those who are looking for a quick gaming fix may lose interest before the end. However, unlike most of its predecessors, Homecoming’s story is by far the easiest to understand when it does finally reveal its mysteries. Overall, it’s an enjoyable and definitely unique game.

After several years in hibernation (not counting the previous XBLA/PSN release Bionic Commando: Rearmed), Capcom’s Bionic Commando franchise is swinging back into action with an all-new 3-D adventure, from the talented development team at Grin. Along with his firearms, he has a trusty mechanical arm that he uses to swing, grab objects and other neat features. The game has many things in common with the NES original (as well as Rearmed), but it’s not quite all it could’ve been.
