The game features six main characters that specialize in six fields of medicine. They will maneuver through the game as a general surgeon, a diagnostician, an emergency medical technician, an orthopedic surgeon, a medical examiner, and an endoscopy surgeon.
The game requires concentration and a steady hand. Starting off with a choice between two difficulty levels, gamers may find that even the easiest setting can be a bit of a challenge as you learn your way about the game. Once the game has been completed though, the hardest level is then unlocked providing you with the chance to prove if you really have what it takes.
A Little About Each Profession:
Below are a few details about what to expect:
First Response – The name says it all and as you can imagine, it is fast paced and mistakes in judgment or procedure can result in a quick fatality. This section of the game requires speed, sound choices, and focused attention, as well as the ability to manage multiple patients.
Endoscopy – Endoscopic surgery will have you placing an endoscopic tube within the patient to reach normally inaccessible places. Once correctly positioned, the procedure will start and during the surgery, the endoscope can and will need to be moved around in order to find and correct whatever the problem may be. This is a delicate procedure as hitting any of the “walls” will cause the patient to lose vitals.
Orthopedics – This section of the game focuses on the repairing of bone structure. Although the vitals meter is replaced with a limit counter, this does not make things any easier for the player.
Forensics – Anyone who is a fan of mystery novels, movies, or television shows already has an idea of what this category entails. An important part of solving murder cases, the player must use a series of clues to figure out how the subject was killed…and by whom. A sharp eye and attention to detail will come in handy during this section.
Diagnostics – Ever seen the television show, House? If so, here’s your chance to get a feel of what he does. In this field, players must gather clues in order to figure out each patient’s ailment. This will be done by interviewing the patient as well as running a variety of tests. Once a solution has been reached, then treatment will take place. But think it is as easy as having the patient tell you every detail you need? Wrong. Patients can and will be vague in what they tell you – whether it is because they themselves are unsure or they are seeking to hide information.
About the Characters: Meet a few of the Trauma Team!
Maria Torres is one tough chick! She has a tendency to lose her temper, but her passion to “be a hero,” drives her on her path to save lives.
Gabriel Cunningham is a diagnostician who is known as the “Master of Deduction.”
Hank Freebird used to be in the Navy but now works at the Trauma Center as a bone setter..err I mean Orthopedic Surgeon.
For those who have played Trauma Center: Second Opinion, you will quickly recognize Naomi Kimishima (Nozomi Weaver). For those who haven’t, Naomi is a Medical Examiner…with a catch and twist. Naomi was infected with an incurable disease that she keeps hidden from her co-workers, along with the ability to hear the deceased’s final words through her cell phone.
Tomoe Tachibana is the shy Endoscopic Surgeon from a wealthy Japanese family who enjoys dressing in traditional Japanese clothes.
Review Conclusion:
The game started off with a very lovely intro that gave a sense of peace before making a transition into a swift tempo that reflected what was in store. Menu selection at the beginning of the game was a bit confusing, leaving one to wonder what they were supposed to do. The explanation at this point really wasn’t sufficient but FYI – just start with the first character to the left and then work your way down or across.
The best advice I can give you: Read the tutorials thoroughly! Also NOTE: this game was given an ESRB rating of Teen. Due to the use of strong language and nudity in some scenes, this game was not intended to be played by younger children.
