Description

In Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Haggard, Sarge, Sweetwater and Marlowe from ‘B’ company fight their way through snowy mountaintops, dense jungles and dusty villages. With a heavy arsenal of deadly weapons and a slew of vehicles to aid them, the crew set off on their mission and they are ready to blow up, shoot down, blast through, wipe out and utterly destroy anything that gets in their way. Total destruction is the name of the game, delivered as only the DICE next generation Frostbite™ engine can. Either online or offline, enemies will soon learn there is nowhere to hide.

Battlefield 1943 takes players back to WWII. The game offers endless hours of 24 player multiplayer action over three classic and tropic locations; Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. Delivering the award-winning through-the-gun and vehicle warfare online experience DICE is best recognized for, Battlefield 1943 will have players battling in ruthless aerial dog fights and intense trench combat.

The Bar for Military Action Games Has Been Raised.

If you’re into big guns, fast paced environments, and dying 30 seconds after you spawn then you’ll love B:BC2. It puts everything adrenaline junkies love into rounds of pure awesomeness. Needless to say, I did almost rage quit the whole game after the first 30 minutes though; come to find out you have to earn your med kits, unlike in Battlefield 2 where they are given to you at level 1. Starting off, you get the worst of everything. Cruddy guns, no med kits as medic, no repair tools as an engineer; they start you off bare bones until you level up some. If you can stick it out until Level 2 like I did then you’ll be good to go.

7.5 Online Factor Online multiplayer is offered as well as frequent DLC for new maps. Full servers causes lag, though.

8.5 Replay Value Multiplayer offers hours of endless entertainment that will never be the same twice.

7.0 Gameplay Single Player is your average shoot em' up plot, but multiplayer is addictive and unpredictable.

8.0 Sound Not only do you hear gunshots and explosions, but you feel like you're standing at war's front door.

9.0 Visuals Amazing...(if your video card can handle it that is, for PC players)

9.0 Controls A lot to learn, but once you get the hang of it you'll be flying, shooting & riding in no time.

8.1 Overall Single player is weak, but interactive, engaging scenarios get you hooked for hours at a time.

Battlefield:Bad Company 2 drops you into action with intense suicidal missions against hostile forces. Equipped with the latest technology the military has to offer along, along with a large menu of destructive power to cause one hell of a mess, your mission: kill the enemy by all means necessary.

So whether you like fancy tanks, planes, ATV’s or motor boats, there are numerous ways to take down your enemy in style.

Single Player

Let me start by saying, the single player is not impressive. The similarities to Call of Duty are apparent; everything from the controls, weapons and movement of the game. The plot is basically run, get ambushed, run, get ambushed, and so on. Not only are the ambushes predictable, but so is 80% of the game. Sure there were a few times I was surprised, but overall the game was obvious. You’d always stumble across a gigantic gun before encountering a tank, or a sniper rifle right before you end up having to pick people off 500 yards away. The weapons also lack originality. I never came across a new weapon and was like, “Wow! This is cool!” But hey, they did the job, at least.

On the bright side…

The graphics were beautifully done!

Each terrain is highly detailed and a definite bonus. However, bonuses aren’t always free as my GTX260 was chugging along on low settings. From my experience with this game, I would suggest using an above-average video card to achieve medium to high in-game settings.

All in all, stunning job on the visuals, EA!

Despite my overworked video card, the interactive environment blew me away! When you shoot buildings with a rocket, the walls cave in. Giving any buildilng a generious amount of firepower would bring it crashing down, and stomping down a whole forest with a single tank is definitely a plus!Personally, I’d have to say my favorite part is the dialogue between the characters. While I was bored to death with the constant run, get ambushed plot I kept entertained with the AI dialog. Occasionally you’d hear, “So did you see that one part in Predator where that guy goes in the tree..” If you can pull yourself through the yawn inspiring gameplay you’ll have some laughs along the way.

The Rules of the Game

To succeed on your mission, you must choose one of 4 available classes: Assault, Engineer, Medic, or Recon. Players can then decide to enter a squad, a mini-team consisting of 3 other players, for organized teamwork and additional respawn locations. During combat you can unlock new weapons and pins, which grant you extra experience points at the end. To come out victorious though you have to enforce the terrifying“T”word, also known as teamwork.

During the multiplayer it’s critical to engage in teamwork; this is a war game, not a prance around on your pony throwing water balloons game; so support your team!

In the End…

The game, through it’s multiplayer mode, had me hooked to the point where I spent 9 hours playing in one day. The experience was immersive, amazing and astonishing. Even with the singleplayer taking a huge flop, the multiplayer pulls through, and delivers true heart pounding war-like situations. As far as multiplayer war games go, it doesn’t get any better than this.
