Double Trouble

When it came down to game-play, I was both pleased and disappointed. At first, the whole concept of duel wielding blew me away. Being able to have a weapon in one hand and a plasmid in another was a dream-come-true. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel that way after playing with it.

Controlling both your left and right hands got confusing at times. One thing I absolutely loved, though was the improved hacking system. In the previous game, hacking was a pain in the you-know-what. Luckily, 2k Games felt our pain and simplified it. Now, if you want to hack you simply have to click on the correct colors (while an arrow moves back and forth) and that’s it! Oh, and did I mention you can have a personal mini turret? So cool!

Terror for Two

Now onto the topic that everyone is curious about – the multiplayer. Yes, 2k Games went big this time and added a multiplayer mode – something the first one lacked. Taking the role as a splicer you can play such games as Capture the Sister, Team ADAM, and Turf War. I thought the concept of the multiplayer was genius, and I’ve never seen anything like it before…but just because it’s original doesn’t mean it’s a hit.

I did get hooked for a while, and yes it was entertaining, but it has several glitches. It also felt like lower-leveled players had a massive disadvantage to higher-level opponents.

The Essence of Rapture

Moving on, the graphics are astonishing. If they were candy, I’d eat them. Not only do you get to experience the the inside of Rapture, you also got to experience the outside, as well. Everything from water to weapons have exquisite detail. When you explore the bottom of the ocean, you can actually feel the resistance of the water; making game-play that much more realistic.

Along with the graphics, the sounds make everything even better. Whenever you get hit you hear a deep, Big Daddy groan. Shoot electricity from your hands, and you can hear the lightening bolt effect. It seriously feels like you’re in the environment your monitor is displaying!

Introducing Big Sister

Don’t be deceived by such a harmless name, because she she brings a load of trouble. Even though you don’t see her a whole lot, the moments I did see her gave that chilling feeling down my spine.

Although game-play can be repetitive at times, the great attention to detail far outweighs any glitches or frustrating controls. It may not be as creepy, but Bioshock 2 is a worthy follow-up to the original.
