Darksiders is a gruesome, violent, fast-paced combat adventure inspired by the New Testament’s Book of Revelation. Players take the role of War, the first of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. War must battle both demons and angels, as he fights alone to reverse a premature Day of Reckoning that he himself is accused of accidentally bringing to be. In the style of games such as Devil May Cry and God of War, Darksiders’ combat is supernaturally infused, taking place across great expanses of land as well as high in the air, with fast-flowing combos, impossibly huge medieval weapons, and destructive blasts of magical energy from mystical firearms. After being tricked into breaking the eternal laws, and causing the end of the world to come far too early, the horseman War finds himself at odds with both the forces of heaven and hell. The game follows his story as he fights across the destroyed civilizations and wildernesses of Earth, hunted by vengeful angels and gleeful demons alike, as he searches for the one who fooled him into fulfilling his purpose too soon, and unsettling the order of existence. The game’s graphic-novel inspired art style was directed by Marvel Comics illustrator Joe “Mad” Madureira. Characters are performed by veteran voice actors, including Liam O’Brien as War and Mark Hamill as The Watcher, who often appears in cut-scenes to reveal lore and move the story forward.

A fan girl (or boy’s) delight – from the voice talents of Mark Hamill to incredible comic book art by the game’s creator Joe Madureira, Darksiders is a surprisingly unique adventure that takes players to worlds both familiar and fantastic.
Combos, effective weapons and interactive environments make for satisfying battles – of which there is a plethora. This is no mere hack and slash game, however – it is a world and culture to explore and it intensifies with game progression. As War slowly regains his powers, players are armed with new tricks up their sleeves and new challenges to overcome. Darksiders offers an imaginative story line, puzzles and foes that will keep you charged to its epic, violent end.
Culturally, we are raised that there is a good and an evil. To be neutral ANYTHING is unfamiliar to most, with the exception of tabletop role-players and Switzerland. Darksiders takes figures from the Bible, Kaballah and our deepest imaginations, then skillfully places them into a “what if” scenario.
Imagine that there are three kingdoms – Angelic, Demonic and Human. In order for them to uphold a balance, a council is created. The Charred Council’s enforcers? The Four Horsemen; Neutral. Powerful. Dreaded. They are to be summoned at the Apocalypse and unleash their wrath upon the dying world – letting all three kingdoms fight for domination.
BUT—what if the apocalypse was started too soon? War is summoned and lays waste as a Darksider is designed to do. But everything is wrong – where are the other three riders? It’s too late – humans have been wiped from the face of the Earth leaving only the angels and demons to place blame…on War himself. The demons have won, thanks to their leader, The Destroyer. Condemned by the Council and stripped of his power, War must join forces and make deals with angels and demons alike to make things right on Earth. Can he recover the balance and bring the humans back by defeating The Destroyer? And if so, at what cost?
