The game utilizes the iPhone’s motion sensing for jet maneuvering. Controls handle great, as your motions read out in terms of which way you want your vehicle to fly. You’ll need to constantly keep moving, as “danger zones” constantly pop up all around you. If you stay within this zone, enemy bullets and missiles stand a greater chance of hitting you. You’ll go on the offensive as well, firing machine guns and rockets at incoming enemies. The guns are more effective, since they fire a lot faster. However, you can lock on to up to four targets at once with missiles, which comes in handy if your screen fills up with them.

This is a fast-paced game that holds up well on the iPhone. The graphics never slow down once, not even when you’ve got a screen-full of bad guys. They also look pretty good. Some of the backgrounds are a little bland, but you go by them so quickly, you really won’t care. As for the music, before you ask, yes, “Danger Zone” is here. (It’s a cover version, but it beats nothing.) There are some other schmaltzy 80’s rock tunes included as well, and they’re pretty fun. However, would it have killed Paramount to include “Take My Breath Away” over the credits? Or “Playin’ With the Boys”? (Sorry, we’re purists that way.)

Nevertheless, for $4, Top Gun is pretty hard to beat. Download it now and show the world that, yes, you are dangerous.
