In this installment of God of War, Kratos has to make his way up to Mt. Olympus, to Hell, and back to Mt. Olympus. This feat would seem impossible but then again we are dealing with the Ghost of Sparta. The beginning of game starts off with Kratos on the back of Gaia climbing Mt. Olympus. The opening of the game is quite jaw-dropping, to say the least, with your fight against Poseidon. The gods are not pleased to see the Titans and Kratos making their way to the top of Mt. Olympus. The look of the Titans is quite amazing and the environment scaling gives you an idea of how tall they are compared to everything around them.

The mechanics of the game have not changed one bit. Prepare to fight bigger groups of monsters than the previous games, though, making battles much more interesting and complex. You’ll have your trust blades but you’ll also pick up a few other goodies along the way. Most of the weapons are the same and do the same attacks; they just look different. The Cestus (fist weapons that look like lion heads) have different moves and basically command respect for those who use them. There’s a twist to each weapon, as they have their own special magic move which benefits Kratos in battle differently. You can switch weapons quickly during battle, which makes things interesting. If you like a certain weapon but like another weapon’s magic move, you can use this ability bring it out quickly.

You can literally hear bones breaking (ok maybe not, but still). The sounds made you feel as if you are fighting Minotaurs and Gorgons. The music prepares you with pure excitement to get into the battle and seek your revenge.

The game does have its flaws with the fixed camera, but it’s bearable. There are parts of the game where the angles make it difficult to fight. Another problem I encountered was when I tried saving the game. I had to run around in circles spamming R1 until the prompt came up. It may have been an isolated incident since I’ve asked others and only one other person had this problem. A new feature that I love is the cutscene button sequence there are on the edge of the screen. So you’re able to see the cutscene and differentiate which buttons to mash (don’t lie we know you button mash).

Though nothing has changed in the game other than the story, God of War III is a great game to play. If you’re looking to kill mythological gods, brutal fight scenes, and an interesting story you’ve found your game. With the visuals and the combat you’ll finish the game wanting even more. The ending of the game has left many with conflicted feelings; some liking it and some hating it. With the different achievements and the Challenge of Olympus (time based trials with objectives) this game is fun to play more than once.

There are rumors that say when you unlock the Platinum trophy, players are given a website to go to: http://www.godofwar.com/spartansstandtall and that there will be a DLC to the game (Remember RUMORS). If you go to this page, there is simply rain and thunder. This has many fans waiting eagerly to see what Sony has up their sleeve.

Overall, the game mechanics are the same; so if you’ve played the previous God of War games you’ll be able to pick up the controller and get into the action with ease. The game has its annoying parts with the puzzle areas of the game – yes, there are parts of the game which are nonviolent (I know it’s a shocker). Other than the puzzles, the game is full of actions and very fun to play.
