Battlefield: Bad Company 2 doesn’t hit stores until March 2nd (US – March 5th in the UK), but already it’s been dropping the jaws of millions of gamers. Just 21 hours into the PC Beta launched January 28th, servers were about to explode; in fact, Multiplay had to quadruple Fileplay’s web serving capacity in under 2 hours to handle the surge.
“We’ve never seen demand like it,” says Craig Fletcher, Managing Director, Multiplay. “At our peak, we were connecting 10,000 people per second – and we managed the demand better than other servers, many of whom were down for hours when demand surged. If there was ever any doubt that our infrastructure and technology in Fileplay was anything other than best in its class, the past 16 hours have proved it.”
It didn’t end with PC, either – if you didn’t get to try the free demo that ended today, you’re apparently missing out. According to DICE, the game’s developer, BC2 is well on its way to becoming the fasted downloaded demo in EA history. In the first five days of availability, over 2 million downloads occurred over Xbox LIVE™ and the PlayStation®Network combined.
