Are you ready for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics? Ready for all of that hard work with the coach to finally pay off so you can score some medals for the home team? Yeah, we’re not either. Fortunately, Mario the Plumber, and his old rival, Sonic the Hedgehog, are here to get us in the Olympic spirit yet again, in “Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games”.
In this follow up to 2007’s “Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games”, our heroes are back at it again, this time bringing us events on the DS Version like Alpine Skiing, Bobsledding, & On the Wii version, Figure Skating, Ice Hockey, and Dream Ski Cross. (Think Mario Cart on Ski’s!!!) It also introduces 2 new characters, Metal Sonic, & Donkey Kong. The game mechanics are much like the originals, where you control your respective character on-screen through various Olympic events matched to the DS & Wii controls.
Exclusive to the DS version, there is an ‘Adventure Tour’ mode, with the storyline starting out with Bowser & Dr. Eggman joining forces to take all of the snow from the Olympic games. Mario & Sonic must join forces to rescue the ‘snow spirits’, & win the game.
The Wii version also offers a similar ‘Festival’ mode, where in players make their way through the entire Olympic games from Opening ceremonies to closing ceremonies. Mario & Sonic (italics) also will support WiiConnect24 capability, and allow players to use their Mii’s in game. Some events will also support use of the Wii Balance Board, to add that little extra something to the game.
Both games are confirmed to have multi-player support, with co-op and competitive gameplay, and Download Play support for the DS version.
Still not sold? It might bring you some comfort to know that Nintendo game mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto over saw production of this title, and with such amazing creations under his belt like the Mario, Zelda, & Donkey Kong franchises, as well as the more recent Nintendogs and Wii Music, I’ll definitely set aside some time to check this one out. Look for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games to hit store shelves this October.
Coming soon...
